EGFR mutation testing is essential part of work up of advanced NSCLC. Based on a paper puplished in 2015 looking into trends of EGFR mutation analysis in clinical practice, it was noted that EGFR genetic testing was not conducted in 19% of advanced NSCLC cases**. The main reasons for not testing were: insufficient tissue, poor performance status (PS) and long turnaround time**. Moreover, mutation test results were not available before treatment decision was taken in 23% of tested patients**. Liquid biopsy can be helpful in providing EGFR mutation status in patients who do not have sufficient tissue for conventional EGFR testing.
